CBL Exchange announced that its Assistant Chief Analyst, Anwesha Basu, delivered a keynote address at the annual Fintech & Sustainability Forum in Dhaka, where she presented insights on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies. The event brought together investors, policymakers, and academics to examine the intersection of digital finance and sustainability across South Asia.
Basu outlined the utility of AI-based tools in evaluating environmental impact and corporate responsibility at scale, with potential to mitigate greenwashing and improve capital allocation towards sectors demonstrating verifiable sustainability practices. She identified renewable energy, textiles, and manufacturing as sectors where data-driven ESG assessment could inform institutional investment decisions.
Drawing on research and applied models from her work at CBL Exchange, Basu detailed how AI can enhance cross-border risk management and support the integration of ESG metrics into portfolio construction. She also emphasized the importance of financial inclusion, advocating for increased educational outreach to underrepresented populations, including women and rural communities.
In discussions with stakeholders during the forum, Basu met with clean energy companies and regional financial institutions to explore opportunities for collaboration in support of South Asia’s green transition.
Basu’s professional background combines market analytics with a focus on social equity. Her initiatives, including the “Community Finance Classes” program, have delivered basic financial education to more than 20 rural communities across South Asia. She was recognized as a “Sustainable Finance Pioneer” in 2023 for her contributions to ESG integration in capital markets.
Basu holds degrees from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and the University of Oxford. Her interdisciplinary training in humanities and finance has shaped her approach to sustainable finance and corporate responsibility.
