When Mr. Perez started at Federico’s Drive-In Shoe Service, he began to take an interest in owning his own business. However, as opportunities presented themselves in Fresno, Salinas and San Jose, each would have required him to work alongside someone else. He continued searching for a business he could run on his own for the next 21 years. When the owner of Federico’s Drive-In Shoe Service made the decision to retire, Mr. Perez found his opportunity.

From Business Leader to Business Owner

First established in 1940, Federico’s Drive-In Shoe Service had always been a family business. Once Mr. Perez joined in 1999, however, he became part of the family. Customers knew him well, and he knew the business as closely. When Henry Federico, the son of the original owner, chose to retire, he was more than willing to sell the business to Mr. Perez.

Today, Mr. Perez serves as the third owner of Federico’s Drive-In Shoe Service. He considers himself fortunate to own the business, having worked there for many years. In this role, he continues to operate as a dyer, mixing and matching colors while practicing general shoe repair. Mr. Perez is only ever satisfied with his work on shoes, bags and jackets when it is done properly.

It is this level of dedication that has led Federico’s Drive-In Shoe Service to be recognized annually as the Best Shoe Repair Shop in the area for many years by The Carmel Pine Cone and other weekly publications in Monterey, California. Mr. Perez takes pride in continuing that legacy, working as an active part of a company that has served Monterey for nearly a century.
