With the January 2026 launch of the Dimensity 9500s, MediaTek’s latest flagship mobile chipset incorporating Adaptive Game Technology 3.0 (MAGT 3.0) and Frame Rate Converter 3.0 (MFRC 3.0), the company’s GPU and system-level computing innovations have reached commercial scale. The foundational technology behind these gaming optimization frameworks traces back to patented research led by Dr. You-Ming Tsao, Assistant General Manager of MediaTek’s Computing and AI Technology division.
Dr. Tsao’s U.S. Patent No. 12,443,262, “Adaptive Loading-Aware System Management for Balancing Power and Performance,” granted on October 14, 2025, covers the adaptive processor load management methods that underpin MediaTek’s game engine technologies, now deployed across hundreds of millions of devices worldwide.
Since April 2021, Dr. Tsao has held dual leadership roles at MediaTek. As leader of the GPU Technology, he oversees more than 200 engineers across hardware and software development for mobile, computing, and automotive product lines. Concurrently, he directs over 40 architects defining next-generation computing system architecture across the same platforms.
Under his leadership, MediaTek brought ray tracing to its Dimensity 5G chipsets through collaboration with Arm and Tencent, and the Dimensity 9300 became the world’s first mobile chip to deliver console-quality global illumination at 60FPS. The MAGT framework, developed in collaboration with Google and integrated across Dimensity chipsets, provides game developers with a real-time adaptive performance SDK balancing frame rate, thermal management, and power efficiency.
In 2025, MediaTek’s team also received recognition at ISSCC, widely regarded as the foremost academic forum in chip design, for the paper “Run-Time Power Management System by On-Die Power Sensor with Silicon Machine Learning-Based Calibration in a 3nm Octa-Core CPU,” addressing silicon-level power optimization at scale.
As the semiconductor industry moves into the post-Moore era, system-level innovation has become the defining competitive frontier. Dr. Tsao’s parallel roles spanning GPU Technology and computing system architecture reflect MediaTek’s deliberate integration of these disciplines, connecting academic research, patent protection, and mass-market deployment across billions of devices globally.
